A 29-year old man, Austin Osita, has been arraigned before the Candide Johnson Court,
Ikorodu, for allegedly defrauding his friend, Taiwo Muhammed, of N7.7m.
Muhammed gave Osita a sum of N7.7m for safekeeping, but the suspect allegedly diverted the money to personal use and remained incommunicado until he was caught...
The suspect was also alleged to have sent voice notes and videos to Muhammed, boasting that he was the leader of a cult and he would kill him and his wife if he continued pestering him about the money.
Muhammed, in his statement to the police, said, “After sending the money I had worked for from the United States to Osita, who told me he had a foreign account, he started evading me. He also sent threat messages to me and people that tried to intervene in the matter.”
“I just threatened Taiwo over the phone and what I said to him was that I was the head of a cult because my wife and my mother complained that he kept coming to my house with some persons. I am the only son of my parents and I don’t want to lose my life for anything; I will return the money very soon.”
Osita was arraigned before the Candide Johnson Courthouse on five counts bordering on stealing and belonging to an unlawful society.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to charges.
The magistrate, Mr W.B. Balogun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
