Pandemonium erupted as two dead casualties recorded in a brutal clashes
between members of two rival cult groups in Ondo town, Ondo State, on Monday and Tuesday.
The deceased were said to be members of the Aiye Confraternity and Eiye Confraternity, as both groups had engaged each other in bloody fights in recent times in the town.
One of the deceased, who was identified as Olaleye Isiaka, was reportedly killed on Monday, while the second victim, whose identity had not been ascertained as of the time of filing this report, was shot dead early on Tuesday.
An eyewitness said, “Isiaka was a member of Eiye Confraternity and was in the midst of some of his friends at a joint located in the Akure Motor Park in the town when members of the rival group attacked him.
“When the attackers got to the scene, they started shooting and people around the area had to run to safety. Isiaka too attempted to escape from the scene but he was shot at several times. The attackers later clubbed him till he gave up the ghost.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
He said, “We only have the identity of one of the deceased, Olaleye Isiaka; he was a notorious cultist in the town. He was killed by a rival cult group. The second person was killed this morning (Tuesday) in a reprisal by Isiaka’s group, but we don’t know his identity yet.
“Investigation has commenced and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act.”
