"You lack manners for disrespecting Obasanjo"- YYF tells Fayose, Buhari’s aide

A pan Yoruba socio-cultural group,  Yoruba Youth Forum, has called on the
immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele  Fayose and the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity,  Mr Garba Shehu, to stop making uncomplimentary remarks about former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

YYF in a statement signed by its President, Abiodun Bolarinwa,  on Tuesday in Lagos cautioned Fayose to stop parading himself in a manner that did not befit a true Yoruba man.

The group recalled Fayose’s statement that it was a shame that Obasanjo could not honour the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola, when he had the opportunity to do so.

The ex-governor had said this while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring Abiola by naming the Abuja National Stadium after the deceased during the celebration of Democracy Day on June 12.

Obasanjo, he said should cover his face in shame for failing to do the “right” thing when he had the opportunity to do so.

But the YYF said,  “Fayose’s utterances  showed that he lacks respect for the elders as enshrined in Yoruba culture.”

Bolarinwa, who described Fayose’s action as a sign of sycophancy, added that the ex-governor’s aim was to seek President Buhari’s pardon for his alleged corruption cases.

He also described Shehu’s reaction to Obasanjo’s absence from the celebration of Democracy Day on June 12 as distasteful.

Bolarinwa advised Fayose and Shehu to face their problems rather than use Obasanjo’s name to score cheap political point.

He said Fayose should rather be concerned about the corruption case he had with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Bolarinwa said the way Fayose was speaking against Buhari when he had some health challenges “shows that he lacks decorum and does not show himself to be a true Yoruba son as Yoruba culture inculcates in all the people of the ethnic group   virtues of respect for elders.”

He said the President’s media aide should note that “Obasanjo has  the right to choose where he wants to go at anytime and his decision to honour or not to honour any invitation is his discretion.”

Bolarinwa said Fayose should tender an unreserved apology to Obasanjo, claiming that “Obasanjo is a genuine leader that has interest of Nigeria and Africa at heart.”

The YYF added, “All what the former President is saying is that the present administration should find lasting solution to the issue of kidnapping and insecurity that is bedevilling the nation.”

YYF also advised all governors in the South-West to speak with one voice irrespective of their political affiliation towards ending the invasion of the geopolitical zone by kidnappers.
