Church litters with blood, Pastor on the run as stampede kills 20 over 'anointing oil'


A tragic event has occurred in a church where hundreds of people
gathered for a prayer service which held on Saturday.


The evening service which was led by a popular Tanzian preacher, Pastor Boniface Mwamposa, in the town of Moshi near Mount Kilimajaro ended up in a stampede that led to the death of 20 church members.

The Pastor who is the head of the Arise and Shine Ministry was said to have poured 'holy oil' on the ground and then encouraging the large crows to push forward in the hopes of touching it. Aynaijang News reports


The devastating incidence happened at night and the probability of having more casualties is quite high. According to a witness identified as Peter Kilewo who spoke to AFP news agency, people trampled on themselves mercilessly while jostling each other with elbows. Also news agency, Reuters reported that the rush led to the death of 20 people leaving 16 injured.


The Commissioner of Moshi district, Kippi Warioba said five of those killed were children, and there were concerns the death toll could rise.

It was also reported that Pastor Mwamposa took off to another location; Dar es Salaam, a city on the Tanzanian coast after the incident occurred to lead another prayer service at another branch neglecting those affected by the stampede.


So far, an investigation has been launched by the police.
