Saraki and Bala Mohammed Emerges as Northern PDP Presidential Consensus Aspirants

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed are to be presented as northern consensus candidates ahead of the PDP presidential primary.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed have been named as the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential candidates by the Northern Elders' Forum.

This decision was reached following a series of meetings between Saraki and Mohammed, as well as Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and businessman Mohammed Hayatudeen, to find a regional consensus candidate.

Their efforts resulted in the formation of a committee led by Prof Ango Abdullahi, tasked with finding a candidate from the north to run for the PDP ticket.

According to Abdullahi, his team submitted a report to Ibrahim Babangida, the former Military President, who accepted and approved it.

He also stated that Saraki and Mohammed were selected after a three-phase screening procedure, which he described as comprehensive and fair.

Saraki and Mohammed tied for 10 votes, according to the committee while Tambuwal trailed with three votes less and Hayatudeen finished last with five votes.

One of the elders was also said to have postponed his vote in order to continue consultations with traditional rulers and other key players.
