Oyo State Gov Flags Off Distribution Of Palliative To The Citizens

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has flagged off the distribution

of palliatives to the citizens of the state, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.

Following Governor Seyi Makinde’s approval of the sum of Eight billion, Six hundred and thirty-three million, nine hundred and ninety-six thousand, four hundred and sixty four naira (N8, 633, 996, 464. 00) for the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) committee in the State, the Oyo state government flagged of distribution of food palliatives among other things in Oke Ogun zone 2 on Wednesday.

During the symbolic presentation at the frontage of Saki City Hall in Saki West local government, Governor Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, said that food palliative distribution was earlier done in 2019 in the state during Covid-19 pandemic in which people were unable to run their businesses until the state’s government intervention to cushion the effect.

He pointed out that the Makinde-led administration in Oyo state is being magnanimous in addressing the current problem of the country and ensuring quick growth in the state through adequate utilisation of the state allocation in order to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.


According to Lawal, the flagged off is being done simultaneously across six zones in the zone, and 200,000 of the poorest of the poor households would benefit from SAfER.



“He said: “On behalf of His Excellency, Seyi makinde, the palliatives would be distributed across wards and units in the 33 local government on Friday.”


The deputy governor, who stated that the recovery initiative is also for farmers and civil servants as well as the transporters to be assist to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal, however commended the federal government for taking the boldly step in removing the subsidy to be able to benefit large chucks of people in the country which His Excellency, Seyi Makinde is also doing.


He added that the symbolic presentation to royal fathers, religious leaders, Arewa community, traditional leaders, people with disabilities, among others is just to flag off the distribution as the palliatives would be widely distributed to the poorest of the poor households on Friday.


Lawal tasked the residents of Oyo state not to hesitate to reach out to the state government whenever they suspect partiality in the distribution, emphasizing that the palliative is strictly for the poorest of the poor households.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of Saki West local government, who spoke on behalf of other chairmen in the Oke ogun zone 2, Engineer Sarafadeen Ahmed Omirinde, commended Governor Seyi Makinde ably represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal for the recovery initiative to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.


He equally appreciated all the party members of PDP for their support of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration as well as the entire Oke-ogun zone.
